This article states that ‘the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) . . . frantically apologized to the church after . . . Hophmally Makande insinuated at a rally in Blantyre that [P]resident Peter Mutharika would only step down as [P]resident if the [P]ope, who is older than Mutharika, resigns first.’ Of course, it is perfectly proper for spokespeople of the DPP to apologize for any statements which imply disrespect for the Holy Father.
