Organisers of the debutant Miss Warm Heart of Africa disqualified hottest contender Nancy Chavi on Friday on grounds that she is ‘married.’
Chavi was pulled off the show hours before the event at the Golden Peacock Hotel in the capital Lilongwe with 13 girls competing for the grand prize of a BMW car.
One of the organisers, Eduardo Kankhomba, confirmed the disqualification of Chavi, a model from Blantyre.
The 25-year-old model, who represented Malawi at Mnet Face of Africa 2010, was previously married to Blantyre’s Chimpele Tsamwa and they have a baby boy together. The two are not living together.
She told Nyasa Times that she was saddened with the last minute decision to stop her from contesting.
“I am delighted to have been associated with the inaugural Miss Warm Heart of Africa pageant. I have shared a lot with the rest of the contestants. Modelling is in me and will continue to be in the industry,” she said.
“I have been dropped, sadly, at a last minute on issues that is not objective at this point of time,” she said.
“I will not make any further comment to avoid my issues to overshadow the beautiful pageant which I am proud to have been associated.”
One of the girls Tiyanjane Mazengela pulled out.
