If the government cannot rescue the situation, introduce fees as suggested by one member in this forum. I am sure parents are capable of paying and in the fees factor in development fund. At the moment our govt is under stress to pay MK8b for loss of business and another MK70b for being taken to court unfairly. FEES, FEES is the answer to all govt schools in the city of BT.

You are asking for far too much from us citizens . The cow is too thin now because it has been over drained. We are paying too much taxes already and that’s the money that is supposed to be used to manage these schools instead of giving billions to one muli with his endless stupid claims. Tell mutharika becuase he is the one who is approving these muli claims that city schools are in appalling state and that they are a death trap to our children just may be he will agree that things are not what he is busy… Read more »

Schools like Chichiri, Chitawira, Manja, Namiwawa, Limbe, Kanjedza, Mbidzi, Tsokankanasi, Mphungu, Chigoneka, Chimutu, etc can successfully be ran under Public Private Partnership and so save govt millions of money. Govt can introduce an Urban Schools Board to set standards and supervision. I don’t see the above mentioned schools failing to each a enroll more than 1,000 students at K30,000 per term if the standards are city-like.

1. Malawi Government has, through the Ministry of Education, funds to operate those schools very easily. That used to happen during the Kamuzu era. The current problem arises from the procedure in which inadequate funds are allocated to such schools. For instance, SIP is mostly abused by Head Teachers in connivance with the Primary Education Advisors. Inspectors as well as Auditors rarely monitor how such funds have been spent. Those found to have misappriatated the funds are not punished. Ask the DEM. 2. Public Private Partnership is a worse option. It is like one is privatising government owned primary schools.… Read more »

And yet someone wants to get an extra MK8 billion of tax payers money for himself having already got MK3billion, collapsed a bank when we have schools struggling like this. With greed like this no wonder we have no money left to run schools or hospitals. Where has sanity gone
