Court forfeits bus to govt, gives 27 illegal immigrants suspended sentence

A court in Karonga has ordered that a minibus which was used to ferry 27 illegal immigrants recently be forfeited to government and gave each immigrant a three month suspended sentence.

Kalambo:
Magistrate Kalambo

Karonga magistrate Julius Kalambo also ordered the immediate deportation of the 27 illegal immigrants from Somalia and Ethiopia.

Kalambo said the forfeiting of the minibus would deter others from transporting the illegal immigrants to Malawi.

Some unscrupulous business people are making huge sums of money by trafficking illegal immigrants through Malawi to South Africa using unchartered routes.

The illegal immigrants hide in bushes during day and travel by night by giving money to corrupt police officers manning road blocks.

If we had such judgements then surely we would not have such influx of illegal immigrants. But you find some officials even blaming our ‘porous’ borders. Really? Ndianu ma border wo. Mwalephera ndinu ndi uchitsilu wanuwo. But why do we only hear about Somalis and Ethiopias captured when Burundians, Rwandees are flooding the country enmasse? Stupid Malawians
