Court sends serial robber back to jail weeks after completing 8 year sentence
A serial robber in Blantyre has been sent back to jail to serve 14 years imprisonment with hard labour just weeks after he had completed another eight year term.
Police prosecutor in Blantyre Moja Phiri told magistrate Innocent Nebi that 25 year old Robert Nyirongo was involved in serious robbery with violence soon after coming out of prison on December 29, 2015.
The magistrate was informed that on January 8, 2016, Nyirongo robbed a man of his valuables worth K490, 000 and days later he robbed a lady of her mobile phone and K20, 000 cash.
Prosecutor Phiri said in all these incidents, Nyirongo, who hails from Chikulamayembe in Rumphi was using a firearm he stole from a Blantyre based businessman.
In mitigation, Nyirongo pleaded with the court to be lenient with him by not sending him back to prison because his last eight year jail term had not changed him but made him a hardcore criminal instead.
Howver, magistrate Nebi said Nyirongo had become a serial robber and the city residents would be at peace if he is locked up in jail for a much longer period and he immediately slapped Nyirongo with the 14 year prison sentence

Well prison has failed to do its job it’s time we found a new way to hold this man accountable for his actions but also turn him into a better citizen. According to his own testimony, 8 years made him worse how about 14 won’t he be a terrorist when he gets out.
