CYD hands over K10.5m Teacher Development Centre in Mzimba

Centre for Youth and Development (CYD) Friday handed over a Teacher Development Centre (TDC) worth K10.5 million to Ezondweni community in Mzimba to help improve education standards in the district.

The project, made possible with financial assistance from Swiss’ based NGO International Project Aid, will play a vital role in continuous professional development of teachers, according to CYD executive director James Gondwe.

“The curriculum is ever changing,” said Gondwe. “So too teaching methods. We hope the facility will provide opportunities for schools in this [Ezondweni] zone to effectively utilize the centre and help improve examination results in the zone.”

According to information Nyasa Times sourced, the development centre will benefit 17 schools, 95 teachers and 5 970 learners.

The community, Gondwe divulged, contributed resources such as human labour towards the project.

Mzimba North District Education Manager (DEM) Kossam Mphande described CYD’s gesture as way to go.

“During teachers’ meetings learners have been learning under trees as classrooms were being used,” said Mphande. “This will now be history.”

Ezondweni Zone was identified as one of the five education zones in the district of Mzimba that do not have TDC facilities in an assessment that was conducted by CYD in July 2014.

A teacher (comment number 8) mwinatu munanyambita nawo. K10 million is not a joke. This project can not be worthy K10m. Just imagine if Mombera university will need K100m so can this block be K10m? Osatipusitsa munadya nawo basi.

Utter rubbish, there is no way K10.5 million can be spent on this building. In addition the community provided free labour? Thieves.
