The magnitude of subsidies is not sustainable. Will indeed go nowhere with these subsidies.

So you allow MPs and parties to be campaigning by dishing out freebies, but once they are in power you want them to stop handing them out? Shouldn’t you try to uproot the whole thing from its roots not just cutting the tree down….?

Our politicians lack creativity. None talks of scrapping subsidies because of fear of the unknown.

Fisp is an indirect tool that translates into grip on political power of the few at the expense of bonafide taxpayer by deliberately targetting the poor who are in majority, to vote for them in the next election.

Remove subsidies especially FISP and use the savings wisely. Stop unnecessary borrowing. Spend according to Budget. Stop importing toothpicks from China and produce locally made toothpicks – we have plenty bamboos for that matter and export them to China! Move towards the path of being a predominantly exporting and not a predominantly importing economy. Let us postpone our consumption on some luxurious commodities to a time when the economy has stabilized. Bring an economic formula that redeems us from the claws of World Bank.
