DJ Lomwe, Tay Grin in show clash

The old fetid blood between rappers TayGrin and DJ Lomwe seems too spoiled to be cleansed. The two have long been foes; lashing out at each other lyrically in songs and, at some point, physical brawls seemed imminent.

After a span of silence, the nation was made to believe the tabooed hatchet was buried and forgotten; but if for once you thought it that way, then you are in for a shocking surprise. It isn’t over. The fight still rages on, latest being a show clash between the two.

Self- styled Nyau king TyGrin and former Malawi ‘s representative in Big Brother Africa DJ Lomwe are set to hold separate shows of international repute on same day, 29 April, and of course in the same city, Blantyre.

Lomwe: Cultural feast

TayGrin  (Limbani Kalirani) under his label, Black Rhyno Entertainment will be hosting Nigerian rapper Ice Prince of Oleku and Super Star fame at Limbe Country Club just kilometres away from Blantyre Sports Club where Dj Lomwe (Tendai Namate)  is set to launch his debut album in collaboration with Botswana’s former Big Brother housemate, Zeus.

Although one may argue, there is a distance between the two venues, but in such circumstances the victim, for sure, has always been the audience. And with current indefinite urban music audience, it is such scary task to predict who will manage to pull the crowd on the day.

With Black Missionaries, Tay Grin and Ice Prince headlining the Limbe Country Club Superstar Easter Bash and Lomwe, Zeus, Young K, Theo Thomson, Dare Devils leading the Blantyre Sport Club show; obviously urban music enthusiasts will have one head-cracking decision to make on which show to bet its money on.

Ice Prince’s songs are popular and being a rapper of international repute, it’s clear he, together with Black Missionaries will manage to pull the crowd. But on the other hand, a thought of Zeus, some of last year’s BBA housemates including Kim and Wendal and a selection of renowned urban artists being part of Dj Lomwe’s show, really who would thought of missing such feast.

Dj Lomwe will be launching a 12-track LP Double Woza, an album he collaborated with Botswana’s Zeus. The album was done in several languages including Chichewa, Tswana and English to have wide appeal.

In an interview with Nyasa Times, Lomwe described the launch as a cultural feast that will carter as a tourism package aimed at promoting Malawian flag.

“It’s an album that has nice songs in it. We have worked with several artists as well just to give it punch. There is Theo Thomson, Sonye, Young K, Dare Devils and Back Pack from Malawi while on other tracks we have collaborated with Waile, Nameless and Mad Track all from Kenya,” said Dj Lomwe.

He said during the launch, the tradition dance group of Akamwire song, Fikisa and Mibawa band will be in attendance apart from other urban artists such as Blak Jak, Pixy and Maskal.

Currently, as promotion gimmick, Lomwe is, on every Friday, giving out new a song from his new mix-tape License to Kill through his Facebook page for free.

It’s a fight in which, only the strong and controls large populace survive. In this case, the two rappers will have to pray for odds to favour them. Otherwise, it’s a gamble one will have to double check before throwing in the dice.
