DPP candidate pledges driving lessons, courses for youth

As the count down to the October 9, 2012 in Mzimba Southwest and Mzimba Central constituencies draws closer, Democratic Progressive Party  (DPP) candidate for Mzimba Central has pledged free driving lessons and vocational courses for all the youths in the constituency once they make him their MP.

Owen Mkandawire said this during at a campaign rally DPP deputy Chip Whip Symon Vuwa Kaunda addressed at Katunguwiri Full Primary School.

He assured the youths that he will not wait for the government to help him in funding these courses saying he has many benefactors who are willing to bankroll this ambitious project once he triumph.

Mkandawire: DPP candidate

A NyasaTimes survey has indicated that independent candidate  Joseph Mabvuto Kachali is a front-runner and will ace challenge from DPP candidate Mkandawire and a ruling People’s Party candidate..

Kachali was initially a PP member but decided to run on an independent ticket after protesting that the primary elections which selected Aram Mdala Wedson Beza as PP candidate was a “charade.”

“I have been approached by PP top members asking me to withdraw from the race. I am running come October 9,” Kachali told NyasaTimes a few days ago.

Mzimba Central constituency, which fell vacant following the death of Professor Donton Mkandawire, has 41, 740 registered voters and it has 32 polling centers.

Other contender is Aford’s Enita Wezi Njolwa.
