DPP form task force against MCP-bound Mia: Fears he can significantly change political course of Malawi

As  political parties have started rebuilding to increase their chances of winning the 2019 polls, the governing Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) held a meeting in Blantyre for its members of the stronghold Southern Region to discuss how they can tame Lower Shire political mugwump Sidik Mia  who is linked with a move to join Malawi Congress Party (MCP).

Mia : Linked with MCP

MCP is the largest opposition party in Malawi and its president Lazarous Chakwera is the leader of the opposition in the August House.

The party has unshakable political base  in the central region but unpopular in the South, the bedrock of DPP.

But it is fevered that if Mia joins MCP,  the opposition party will gain a political capital as the wealthy businessman and former ministers is capable of calling for a sea change in political action.

In a DPP regional conference held at Blantyre City Council on Tuesday which wa schaired by party director of campaign Kondwani Nankhumwa, the party members led by regional governor Charles Mchacha, the ruling party agreed to go flat out in stopping Mia from turning Lower Shire  and entire South into a possible MCP domain.

Sources that were at the meeting told Nyasa Times that Mchacha warned DPP leaders the influence  of Mia can never be underestimated and that if he eventually joins MCP, he has

a chance of resurrening his political fortunes that can also benefit Chakwera.

“Mia has established support base, we should not underestimate him,” Mchacha told the conference.

DPP has since formed a task force to organise  political rallies in the Lower Shire as strategy to strengthen DPP ahead of Mia’s possible joining MCP.

However, DPP administrative secreyary  Francis Mphepo said the party is not shaken with Mia, saying his support is “perceived and a matter of conjecture.”

But MCP deputy secretary general Eisenhower Mkaka  said Mia would be welcomed in the party , saying he is a beautiful political prospect who can change significantly the political course of the country.

Mchacha is absolutely right DPP can only underestimate Mia at their own peril. After the demise of Gwanda, Mia is the only guru who is left in the lower Shire. It will be interesting cos then it will be a closely contested election.

Am not agreeing with DPP fear of Mia but the fact is this DPP has not perform to is expectations due to several factors man made and uncontrolled situations. Now they feel Mia will take advantage on that and turn south to MCP. My own opinion Mia can not get votes in South and Muslim community, 1. Mia is a true Muslim and follows is doctrine well and receive funding from Middle East but In Muslim circle they trust Muluzi than Mia, So Muslim will support Muluzi than Mia in short Mia alibe chikoka although Ali ndi ma hand outs… Read more »

Iwe President of United for Purpose Party you are still living in the past. Surely you have the audacity to say that Mia is not a threat? You must be joking big time. Just wait and see what will happen in the so called DPP stronghold when Mia eventually joins the dreaded mighty MCP. You will regret the day you were born. If it is indeed true that Mia has decided to join this mother of all parties in Malawi, I bet you, the whole lower shire & almost the entire eastern region as well as some parts of Blantyre… Read more »

As mcp supporters, let’s ask Mr Richard msowoya to love the people of Malawi whom he represents to humbly allow chakwera have Mia as VP. Mia is definitely going to destroy dpp in the south hence Malawians will be free from this bondage. Chakwera is not stupid to scout for Mia coz he loves Malawians. He wants us to be free from these thieves, killers among other things. So Jessie kabwira, love the salima people you represent, stop getting money from dpp to destroy Mcp .don’t do what Judas Iscariot did by loving money coz you’ll use this money to… Read more »

Iwe Saulos, it’s the party convention that elects a party Vice President. Chakwera cannot make a unilateral decision to elect his second in command in the party ranks & file. Big up!! Also don’t forget that the Constitution of The Republic of Malawi has a provision for the offices of 1st & 2nd Vice President. Who knows the two (Mia & Msowoya) would be marked for these positions? Wake up and stop sowing seeds of division in the MCP and Malawi as a whole. Hon. Richard Msowoya (The Speaker of Malawi Parliament) already loves Malawi, therefore don’t coax him to… Read more »
