DPP garners for support in Mchinji West by-election

The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) on Sunday held its first public  campaign meeting aimed at wooing support and introducing its candidate Stephen Kamwani in readiness for October 4 Mchinji west by election.

Speaking during the meeting at Bua, Kamwendo and Guilleme, DPP Secretary General Ecklen Kudontoni said time has come for people of Mchinji west to vote for its candidate, to ensure that there is more development.

He advised people in the constituency against listening to propaganda messages from the opposition parties that DPP is a party for people in the southern region.

“The DPP led government has established infrastructure such as good roads and the recently launched public works programme which will benefit all people including the central region,” he said.

He said people should leave politics aside and vote for a candidate who has the welfare of the people at heart.

“Let us change our mindset, some people just vote for a party because their forefathers first joined the party, time has changed, vote for someone who would lobby government and help you,” he said.

Kudontoni then called on all former aspirants from the party to rally behind Kamwani as a sign of unity.

In his speech, Mchinji West DPP candidate Stephen Kamwani said he was ready to serve the people of the constituency which has lagged behind in development for many years.

“Mchinji West is the hub of the district, but it saddens me that it still lacks infrastructure such as good roads, good schools befitting a border district,” he said, adding, I will ensure that I address these needs when elected.

Earlier, former DPP aspirant Lonzoe Zimba who was tipped to contest in the elections, called on his supporters to rally behind Kamwani saying his pulling out was due to his other commitments as President of Malawi Professional Boxing Control Board.

Mchinji West fell vacant after the death of former MCP parliamentarian Billy Kanjira Banda, who died  on March 13 this year.

Voting for any MP from which ever party is a waste of time. Do these idiots really help us? A big no! Once you vote for them, they relocate or go back to the Cities and you hardly see them again until the next general elections. They claim millions of Kwachas from their Constituency Funds but nothing concrete can be pointed having been done with this money. They tell the communities to mould and char bricks for Teachers’ houses or TA office blocks and claim the money as if a contractor moulded those bricks. These idiots together with their DCs’ are… Read more »

MCP territory, you DPP go to hero. Ask your fore fathers about Mchinji. The best was you just to withdrawal other than cheating people. Which government are you referring to Kudonton. If Peter is failing to minister who have stolen our tax money which government achimwene mwazungulira mutu. Tikadzakumangani muzizati political arrest koma mukuba. There is no government here unless you leave office people of Malawi will elect their needful leader who is currently making plans for the country not busy stealing money of the poor malawian.
