DPP says concerned with political harassment of party MEC commissioners

Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has launched a stinging attack on Lazarus Chakwera administration on the way two opposition Malawi Electoral Commission commissioners are treated.

Mpinganjira: Let the government take the next step and nullify all the elections where the two commissioners have participated in, beginning with the June 23, 2020 presidential elections

The concern from the DPP publicity secretary Brown Mpinganjira came just hours after Parliament’s Public Appointments Committee recommended to president Chakwera to fire the two embattled DPP MEC commissioners; Linda Kunje and Jean Mathanga.

Both Chakwera and PAC argue that the two commissioners, who were appointed by former president Peter Mutharika, are not fit to serve as commissioners because they were found to be incompetent by both the Constitutional Court and Supreme Court in the election case rulings.

Mpinganjira says the two commissioners have been an integral part of the administration of the. June 23, 2020 presidential elections as well as the several by-elections which have been conducted since.

“If the government feels that the two commissioners are performing their work illegally, then let the government take the next step and nullify all the elections where the two commissioners have participated in, beginning with the June 23, 2020 presidential elections,” says Mpinganjira.

He says it was surprising that President Lazarus Chakwera is ignoring a legal opinion from Attorney General Chikosa Silungwe to hire the two as MEC commissioners.

He says this was worrying as it was setting a wrong tone which may, he said, lead to lawlessness.

A thief from a corrupt party feeling sorry for his fellow criminals.
They should have never been appointed but the arrogance of DPP and llomwe belt; now ndi izi.

The two ladies should have just resigned on principle but they are defiant as well so fire them, Mr. President.

DPP should appoint new commissioners and not play stupid fooling games when these women took part is one (if not the most) egregious offense against Mother Malawi that could have easily spiraled into a civil war or genocide of other tribes.

Alfandika and his entire team need to go too. Yesterday.

Chakwera, please be exemplary. You are a Pastor and people respect you as man of God, These two erudite ladies must be given their letters of employment. They are even more educated than you who studied a Bible which we all are familiar with. The PAC that was entrusted to evaluate these two educated ladies were just a bunch of illiterates who could not do proper evaluation of high calibre staff of Kunje and Mathanga. The judges were biased in their ruling because they just wanted Peter out. All in all, Chakwera and the so called MPs who formed PAC… Read more »

Get rid of these two incompetent commissioners. Concourt, Supreme court and Parliamentary condemned them including all Malawians of goodwill. Probably except the prince of thieves and his cohorts. Malawians don’t understand why the Chief Election Officer is still conducting elections. Our taxes are paying k600,000 millions to dubious lawyers from South Africa because of him. Why are we so scared of these Nyekhwes…….
