Simwaka was on her way to visit her plot and found the baby so lifeless.

Mzuzu Police spokersperson Martin Bwanali said the baby was taken to Mzuzu Central Hospital for “care and safety.”

Police said they are hunting for the mother of the baby.

The mother would face charges of concealing her baby, in contravention of section 232 of the penal code.

The incident in Mzuzu came almost after Nyasa Times Reported on Tuesday that  the arrest of woman who dumped her newly born baby in a toilet for fear of her husband who is allegedly based in South Africa since 2012.

Mercy Ali, 26, allegedly got involved in an extra-marital affair with another man, resulting in her falling pregnant.

It was alleged that she managed to conceal her pregnancy until she gave birth to a baby girl on April 30.

Ali then decided to throw the baby in the toilet as she feared her husband, who had left for South Africa in 2012.

The incident came to light after a neighbour heard the baby crying from the toilet.

The baby was taken to a nearby hospital where she was said to be recovering.

Brutal murder

In another crime story,  Malawi Police in the lakeshore district of Nkhata Bay are keeping in custody a 27year old woman for brutally killing her 64 year old mother in-law.

Nkhata Bay Police Spokesperson Sergeant Ignatius Esau said Sylvia Chirwa allegedly stabbed and killed Leah Banda in the evening on Sunday whilst she was asleep in her house.

“Sylvia Chirwa was once married to the deceased’s son who lives in South Africa. They were married for nine years and together they have a five year old daughter. But due to some problems, the two divorced and she was sent back home from South Africa,” Sergeant Esau explained.

Sergeant Esau said that the son then later asked his mother (now deceased) to find him another woman to marry. The mother found another woman for her son and that did not please the estranged wife.

“Reports suggest that the suspect after coming back from South Africa had been threatening to deal with the deceased because she believed that her ex-mother in-law had a hand in the breakup of her marriage,” he narrated.

“She stabbed the deceased in the stomach before stabbing her four times at the back using a knife,” Sergeant Esau said.

Lloyd Nkhata, another son to the deceased, reported the matter to police. Police and medical personnel rushed to the scene.

Sergeant Esau disclosed that the deceased died while she was being taken to Nkhata Bay District Hospital.

Postmortem that was conducted revealed that she died due to internal bleeding.

Both the suspect and the deceased come from Chibwana village in Traditional Authority Mankhambira in Nkhata Bay district. – Additional reporting by Aliko Munde, Mana

I cant believe women continue being abused this way. They get married and the man goes to Joni stays 10 years and expects the woman to still be there for him. Fotseki.
What is Joni after all. This used to be fashionable during Thangata, or Wenela, but not now.
