Dust refuses to settle in CCAP BT Synod: Chimesya will not be cowed by suspension

Dust refused to settle in the embattled Blantyre Synod of the Church of Central Africa Presbytery (CCAP), after dismissing its prison chaplain the Reverend Stanley Chimesya for being critical to  general secretary the Reverend Alex Maulana, the church is at it again as it has indefinitely suspended Chimesya with immediate effect.

Chimesya: I will proclaim the truth
Chimesya: I will proclaim the truth against evil

In its suspension letter dated February 8, 2016  signed by the Synod’s deputy general secretary, Reverend Moyenda Kanjerwa which Nyasa Times has seen, Blantyre Synod has suspended Chimesya without pay for a period of three months “or until earlier advised” and will be summoned by the disciplinary committee for hearing.

The letter says the synod’s policy stipulates that the only spokesperson to the press is the general secretary or his deputy as such Chimesya had no authority to grant interviews to the media about the synod’s affairs.

The church blames Rev.  Chimesya for demeaning and a shaming the Synod by putting church’s private scandals in public through media.

“The C.C.A.P Blantyre Synod Management Board (“the board”) has noticed that you have gone to the press and made scathing publications about C.C.A.P Blantyre Synod and its General Secretary.

“Rev. Chimesya, you are aware of the C.C.A.P Blantyre Synod (“the Synod”) policy that stipulates that the only spokesperson to the press for the Synod is the General Secretary or his Deputy. You had no authority to make the various remarks that you have made, which remarks were published in the daily newspapers in Malawi and an online publication, Nyasa Times, “reads part of the letter to Chimesya.

According to the Synod the said publications have been “demeaning and scandalous” not only to the General Secretary, but to all the Reverends and Christians belonging to the Synod as a whole.

The church board said is deemed Chimesya’s deeds as “tantamount to misconduct” and have since recommended that disciplinary action be taken against him.

Reads the letter: “In this regard, you will be contacted by the disciplinary committee in due course. Meanwhile, you are suspended without pay for a period of three (3) months or until earlier advised.

“During the period of suspension, you are requested to be reachable for further communication”.

But according to the source even thought the letter has been signed by Rev Maulana’s deputy it’s the work of Maulana who has been at pains after revelations of his mysterious staged road accidents to plunder church’s resources, K13 million synod’s bank overdraft at National Bank of Malawi accumulated in 2015 when it collects millions of kwacha in form of offerings, rentals of its premises and other sources.

He also detailed a number of the synod’s shortfalls on which he demanded clarifications from Maulana including his demands of allowance, fuel and accommodation when he is going to attend not church related activities but DPP events as chair of National Food Reserve Agency and Malawi Council of Churches.

According to Rev Maulana the revelations which were publicised first by Nyasa Times last week was the work of Rev Chimesya as he is the one who also wrote the church asking the church to ask explanation from the general secretary .

When contacted Rev Chimesya said he is being victimised for his stand against honesty and because of a vehicle, Nissan Serena, which former president Joyce Banda ‘donated’ to him when she was still in power.

“I’m saddened and disappointed considering that the Synod’s stand is not unifying, but rather destructive and instilling fear in other reverends, who are equally concerned with the way Maulana is running the affairs of the Synod. I will not be put off by suspension, rather I will fight on and bring any wrong doing in the open,” Rev Chimesya said.

When contacted Rev Kanjerwa referred the reporter to Maulana. The general secretary refused to comment.

Maulana and Chimesya  had a fall out  prior to the synod’s electoral General Assembly last August following allegations that the two were being bankrolled by the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and its rival former ruling People’s Party (PP) respectively.

As a church we could have avoided this confrontation to happen, because then we are not presenting God in any these efforts, but it only indicates that this end-times is evident, Jesus is near to come, the church is loosing direction everyday.
Malawians especially Pastors, Reverends, Prophets, name it, arewe presenting Christ in all our deeds, is the son of God being glorified, same on us who are teachers of the word for will judged more than anybody….the Bible says so.

Suspension without pay is ok but for such a period – 3 months. Bad labour practice. Mukufuna kufufuza chani? U dont have evidence to incriminate him? I dont think chimesya was speaking to the as the synod’s pro but was crying over his fate at the hands of some of his employer’s managers. Maulana is also an employee not employer
