There is no relaunch here. The launch by JB was a hoax because there was no work carried out. The work that is to commence needed its own launch. Suppose the money earmarked for the launched project then vanished; do you want that covered by the current work?
There was no handover by JB of the project and the resources required for the works hence the so called relaunch.
A Malawi umbuli. In European countries projects are abandoned and policies changed when another party comes to power because in these countries there are clear ideological differences between parties.
As far as I am concerned there has never been any Joyce Banda government. All I know is that Joyce Banda was only doing what was constitutional then after losing our beloved president Bingu (MHSRIP). To me that was DPP government led by JB who some of the DPP party zealots didn’t like then. What JB was doing was all DPP agenda which the people entrusted on late Bingu and JB who were appearing on the ballot in 2009 general elections. It seems you failed to understand the article. The economist is critisizing the costs of that launch not the road itself. And he’s right; why have we the taxpayers now paid for 2 launches when the road hasn’t even been started properly? Why doesn’t government just build roads without spending money on launch ceremonies for every few Km of tar?

Why launch a road which was already launched? This is utter waste of public resources. The Professor, if at all he is worth that title, should know that government does not change. It is parties in power which change. The professor is busy wasting our hard earned resources with reckless abandon as his only concern is how to hold on to power regardless of the cost. Does he care? No he doesn’t. He doesn’t pay taxes like the majority of Malawians. If DPP can construct the road without relaying the foundation stone, wouldn’t people appreciate its accomplishment?
