Escom Sisters prove too strong for MTL Queens

Escom Sisters were superior over MTL Queens on Sunday in the OG Issa Southern Netball League after beating them by 35 baskets to 32 at Blantyre Youth Centre.

However, it was a highly contested encounter that the electricians won with a whisker.

As usual, Escom Sisters coach Griffin ‘Zagalo’ Saenda fielded almost his first seven with Sarudzai Gondwe and Towera Vinkhumbo leading the train.

Vinkhumbo, who was left with the mantle to mark veteran shooter Mary ‘Atcheya’ Waya, was a marvel to watch with her timely marking.

Other players, who were a headache to MTL were Enelesi Mdezo, Caroline ‘Mtukule Ngwira and Jessica Mazengera.

On the other side, MTL tried their best with the likes of youngsters Rianna Mtenje and Thandi Magaleta.

Waya, who suffered an ankle injury recently, was however in her usual scoring mood, netting many baskets for MTL.

Escom, who are yet to be beaten in the league, finished the s first round on top with 27 points from nine t straight wins while the Queens are lying third on the league table with 15 points from seven matches.
