Football lovers in Balaka and across the entire Eastern Region will have to part ways with hefty amount to watch the Carlsberg Cup
Quarterfinal match involving Cobbe Barracks and Nyasa Big Bullets this Sunday at the Balaka Stadium.
The Open Stand tickets will be sold at K1,500 each while the VIP/Covered stand tickets will attract a whooping K5,000 unlike in previous stages where people were paying K1;000 open stands and K3,000 VIP.
However, Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has justified the move to hike the charges.
FAM Competitions Manager Gomezgani Zakazaka told Nyasa Times onThursday that the move is part of controlling the crowd.
“It’s a crowd control measure as we expect a huge turn out yet the stadium is a mere 5,000 seater” Zakazaka said.
He said most of the previous matches that were played in the opening phases were played mid week hence attracting less fans.
“Those other matches were mid-week games while all the quarterfinal matches will be played during weekends therefore we expect a huge turn out” he said.
Action in the Carlsberg Cup Quarterfinal stage will commence on Saturday with Blue Eagles playing host to holders Mighty Be Forward
Wanderers at the Civo Stadium while Moyale Barracks welcome Michiru Madrid who have been the most surprising package having ousted two Super League Clubs Master Security Services and Chitipa United.
On Sunday, apart from Cobbe and Bullets match, Zomba based soldiers Red Lions will travel to Lilongwe to face Kasung Police at Civo Stadium.
