Lilongwe-based pool club FIB have clinched the 2017 K3 million Carlsberg Special Brew National Pool cup championship title.
The central region giants beat Blantyre side Young Snipers of Ndirande 3-1 at the finals played in on Saturday at Sitting Room Club in Chitawira, Blantyre.
FIB captain Edwin Banda did not hide his excitement as he described their win as great achievement which they will live to remember in their life even if they retire from Pool sport.
Banda also described the competition as one of the toughest race they have played since they started playing competitions and recommended his fellow team mates for puting ip a good fight.
“I can say that this was the most competitive tournament because although we’ve not lost any game since the start of the competition in regional qualifiers it wasn’t easier for us to reach this far and
honestly every team was prepared which made the race very stiff,” said Banda.
In his remarks Malawi Pool Association (MAPA) president Chikondi Mbewe said they are all impressed with standard of play shown by the teams.
Mbewe added by congratulating all region pool committees for working very hard day-and-night making sure that the competition should be run in a smooth way without registering any kind of violence or
breaching of rules.
In other games Oriental Thunders A beat Mandevu 3-2 to finish on third position.
As Champions, FIB received a trophy and K650 000 while their runners up Young Snipers got K500 000..
Oriental Thunders A received K300 000 for finishing on positiin three whereas Mandevu went home with K200 000 after finishing fourth position.
