First cashgate prisoner Namathanga walks to freedom next week

First cashgate convict Trizza Namathanga Senzani is expected to walk to freedom next week after prison authorities slashed a third of her three year nine months sentence due to good conduct while in jail.

Commissioner for prisons responsible for operations Masauko Wisikoti confirmed Namathanga, former principal secretary for ministry of Tourism will leave the Maula prison on Thursday having spent a year in the prison having taken part in the K30 billion public money plunder at Capital Hill popularly known as cashgate.

“The Officer in charge of Maula Prison said she had showed exemplerary behaviour while in prison, we did not receive any complaints from the OC of Maula prison concerning her,” said Wisikoti.

Senzani was supposed to finish her sentence on October 6, 2017 after she was jailed on October 6, 2014.

She was sentenced nine months IHL for theft and three years for money laundering.

when I read some of these comments, I really feel sorry for Malawi. People seem so knowledgeable yet they do not know but they make a lot of noise as if they know, sorry! Even inuyo mutati mwanjatidwa ku ndende akuchotsera one third of sentence, along as it’s 3 or more months, regards of crime, but as an incentive for good conduct. Ziri mmalamulo aku Malawi konkuno. If anything you could have protested against the small sentence given by the Judge, because it was under his discretion to give a harsh sentence or not, basing on the mitigating factors, not… Read more »

I hope we all understand what the sentence was instead of just putting up statements that do not make sense here. She accepted that she stole money which she was accused of and paid back in full the amount in question.
