She noted that a country can develop fast only if its people are well educated. She said this is the reason why the leadership of this country is committed to improving education especially for the girl child.

The First Lady who is also an alumnus of the school encouraged all girls in the country to work hard in their education and emulate present day role models.

She hailed the PTA of the school for organising such fund raising activity for the school a move which she described as brilliant. The First Lady therefore pledged K800,000 at the event.

Speaking earlier, the Headmistress of the school, Sister Mary Chimalizeni thanked the First Lady for patronising the function.

Sister Chimalizeni said the school has many challenges, citing inadequate staff houses, lecture hall, computers and classrooms as some of the problems existing at the school but she singled out the school library being the biggest one hence the fundraising in order to address them.

The school is currently constructing a school library which has a compartment of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) at the cost of MK18 million.

According to the Head teacher, the money realized at the function will top up the already solicited MK11million to complete the ambitious project which has a shortfall of MK7million and will also be used to purchase computers.

The First Lady was accompanied to the function by Mary Chilima spouse to the Vice President, Saulos Chilima who also pledged a generous hand.

Also present at the function were Government officials, cabinet ministers, political party officials, religious leaders, the business community and representatives of nongovernmental organisation, among others.
