Madam Mutharika said regular health exams and tests can help find problems before they start and they also can help find problems early and that chances for treatment and cure are better.

She was speaking at Balaka District Hospital on Saturday where she went to cheer the sick as part of Malawi’s 51st independence anniversary celebration.

“Up to now many people in our villages do not want to go to the hospital until it is too late for them to be saved,” noted the First Lady.

“ Let us put to a stop this kind of thinking. It is only at the hospital where you receive professional treatment for your ailments as well counselling for you and your families to live a health life,” she added.

“We only have one life so let us protect it by going to the hospital,” she said.

The First Lady named a girl after herself and two boys as Peter and Arthur after her husband when she visited the postnatal ward.

I think you are not realistic, Getrude. You would not expect government hospitals or health centres which are already resource-restrained to give check ups for people. Actually, health workers would laugh at you and even chase you if you were not sick but just went to hospital for check up. You have the privilege to go to top most hospitals outside the country for check ups funded by government. We do not have that privilege so stop talking nosense. Check ups are for the privileded few. You are laughing at people’s poverty by raising this issue because there is no… Read more »
