Fodya fit for BB’s Carlsberg semi-final against Silver: Sankhani, Chilapondwa also available

Defending Carlsberg Cup champions Big Bullets are likely to have a full-strength squad in Saturday’s Carlsberg Cup semi-final tie against Silver Strikers at Kamuzu Stadium with news that defender Yamikani ‘Headmaster’ Fodya, who sustained a groin injury during the quarterfinal match against Mafco is fit to play.

Midfielder James ‘Terminator’ Chilapondwa, who was also replaced during the same game after sustaining a deep cut on his head and hard tackling defender Sankhani Mkandawire have also been declared fit.

Bullets’ team doctor Godfrey Ghambi, speaking in an interview with Nyasa Times this week said there were no any injury worries in the Bullets’ camp with the recovery of the three.

“Fodya had a soft tissue injury on his groin but he has fully recovered. He could have actually played during the bonanza in Lilongwe but the technical panel decided to give him a rest alongside other regular players,” said Ghambi.

The Bullets’ team doctor added that Mkandawire, who did not feature against Mafco and Chilapondwa would also be ready for selection on Saturday, having also recovered from their injuries.

“All in all, I would say all players are okey and it will be up to the coach and his technical staff to decide which players to use,” he said.

There have been concerns from Bullets’ fans especially on Fodya, who seemed to have sustained a seriously injury as he tried to take a shot at Mafco’s goal.

Bullets’ bench tried to force the player to continue with the game but he was unable to resume playing shortly after getting back into the field of play and was replaced by Chikumbutso Kanyenda.
