Form four student at Bembeke commits suicide by hanging

Barely two weeks before the commencement of the Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) examinations, a form four student at Bembeke Community Day Secondary School (CDSS) in Dedza has committed suicide.

The deceased, Ousmane Zingwe, 20, hanged himself in Bembeke Market.

Confirming the development, Sub Inspector Edward Kabango from Dedza Police Station said the deceased stole three cloth wrappers (zitenje) from his mother who is a business lady at the trading centre.

According to Kabango, this did not go down well with the mother who told Ousmane to return the missing cloths.

Coincidentally, on the morning of 5 June Ousmane was found hanging dead in the market.

Postmortem results showed that he died due to suffocation.

“We advise all people to refrain from committing suicide as this does not solve problems but rather seek advice from elders and other responsible people,” advised Kabango over the sudden death.

The deceased hailed from Manyika Village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Chakhumbira in Ntcheu.

While stealing may not be condoned but this was a childish way of handling the situation.Even if he had sold those zitenje the Mum would have eventually forgiven him.We have wronged our parents for several times but they have always forgiven us. That was not the way to end his precious life.
