Coach Franco Ndawa has been dismissed by AzamTigers  after an executive committee meeting held on December 27 decided not to renew his contract.

Tigers Vice-Team Manager Steve Madeira confirmed the development saying the executive committee felt that Ndawa fell short of the targets at the time he was offered the deal.

“After analysing his performance the executive committee decided not to renew his contract because he has not achieved was given to him,” Madeira said.

The soft-spoken coach, who has worked with a number of clubs in the country, including Red Lions, Be Forward Wanderers,  Zomba United and Silver Strikers, confirmed his dismissal.

“Yes it’s true that I have been fired but life must go on. I thank Tigers for giving me a chance to serve the club,” Ndawa said.

“I believe that in everything I praise God.”

Ndawa, who took over from outspoken Leo Mpulula, last season took the team to the final of the Standard Bank Knockout and lost 1-0 to his former club.

The team was voted for to enter the qualification and started from the preliminary round to reach the final.

He also finished on a respectable seventh position in the TNM Super League.

However of the soccer fans speaking on conditions of anonymity said the decision was too harsh to get rid of Ndawa.

“For a team like Tigers I think Ndawa tried his best taking a team which finished outside the top 10 in the previous season on position 11 to finish seventh this season,” said the sympathiser.

“Tigers also reached the finals of the Standard Bank and for a team like Tigers it is no mean achievement.”

I respect this guy Steve Madeira, his ambition is priceless. He used to be a ball boy back in the days in 1990. He has worked hard as a British soldier and now a team manager in Malawi what a man with a vision….

So you executive where did you want to finish from. Every team respected this Tiger team and now you say that the coach should go. You will remember him if only you don’t hire people like Kananji from Bullets but otherwise you will remember Ndawa
