Gaba’s poor form dealt a blow, red carded
Malawi’ Flames forward Frank ‘Gabadinho’ Mhango was shown a red card when his ABSA Premier league side Bloemfontein Celtic lost 3-0 to SuperSport on Saturday.
Gaba, who is yet to score this season, received a straight red card for lashing out at Sibusiso Khumalo 20 minutes to regulation time.
He had just replaced Dumisani Zuma after warming the bench in the first half.
SuperSport opened the scoring in the 14th minute through Dino Ndlovu, and then Thato Mokeke doubled the lead after receiving a set piece from Thuso Phala.
The red card impacted negatively on Celtic and went on to concede the third minute later.
The forward was once a darling both at local and international level, but is fast losing the steam.
Mhango was Celtic’s top scorer last term, netting nine times in 15 starts and six substitute outings in his first campaign in the PSL.
The 22-year-old lost out to Keagan Dolly for the Premiership’s young player of the season award, but won his club’s top rookie accolade.
Elsewhere, Robert Ng’ambi returned to action for his club Platinum Stars on Sunday.
This was his first match since returning from the Flames Afcon B qualifier against Ethiopia which Malawi won 3-2.
Platinum Stars coach Allan Freese said Ng’ambi’s return would strengthen the team’s midfield.
“Ng’ambi is very important in this regard because not only is he able to create scoring opportunities for others, he can also score goals,” said Freese.

Ur coach Middeldorp will soon walk the plank and if u dont improve urself u wont be in the club’s plan with the next coach. John Maduka has been gud 2 u and plz dont destroy his name. He put too much pressure on himself declaring that he will score 20 goals this term. He is then being found wanting in undesirable places leaving Joel Mogorosi to have easy tap-ins.
