Girl, 10 found dead a day after reported missing

A ten-year-old girl, who went missing on Saturday, was found dead along the Salima – Balaka Road near Katelera trading centre in Salima, a day after she went missing.

Post-mortem conducted at Salima District Hospital indicates that the deceased died due to strangulation.

The girl’s mother, Loveness Chimombo, said she realised that her daughter was missing on Saturday evening, when she came back from a funeral ceremony.

Efforts to find her whereabouts yielded nothing.

The deceased has been identified as Juliet Chimombo, of Maloto Village in the area of Traditional Authority (TA) Kambwiri in Salima district.

Chimombo said on the day her beloved daughter went missing, she was together with her other daughter up to around 2 O’clock in the afternoon at a funeral ceremony in the same village.

“Upon coming back home from the funeral ceremony later that evening, my daughter was nowhere to be seen and efforts to find her whereabouts with the help from members of the community policing yielded nothing throughout the night,” said Chimombo.

According to an eye witness, the body was later found along the road the following morning by passer bye.

Grief and sorrow engulfed the Maloto Millage when the girl was found dead the following morning.

It was not known who was behind neither the murder nor the motive behind the murder.

Police have since launched an investigation on the matter.
