Malawi’s number one youthful gospel artist Gwamba, real name Duncan Zgambo, has brought internet traffic jam with his new single Mapiko which is enjoying unprecedented levels of streaming and downloads.
Nyasa Times has analyzed the song’s performance on two critical music streaming and downloads sites namely www.malawi-music.com and www.cordilia-angel.com. In two days, the song has, already, enjoyed a record of more 50 000 downloads on those two sites.
Released on Monday this week, the song—which features silk voice of Kelly Kay on the chorus—talks about how Christians should always pray for God’s mercy.
It also talks about how Christians must uplift one another and not judge one another. Done in local Chichewa language, the song, according to various reviews it is enjoying, has so much to offer spiritually.
Mapiko, which is a second song from Gwamba’s yet to be announced second album, is already proving a masterpiece from Gwamba, one of Malawi’s multi-award winning artists.
“I had so much to reflect on in that song. My focus is to share with the public that Christianity is not necessarily a religion, something that survives on dogma.
“Christianity is a lifestyle, a way of life and as Christians we should always aim encouraging each other, lifting each other up and supporting each other,” said Gwamba in an interview with Nyasa Times.
Gwamba, who is currently the UNFPA Ambassador, launched his debut album titled Kudutsa Pakhoma .
The ‘Bola Kusache,’ artist who has drawn his lyrics from the day to day issues people experience, said he had made progress with his second album and is optimistic that people will love it.
His debut album had other songs such as ‘Ndiyima Pachulu,’ and ‘Ndidikira.’
Gwamba also prides in winning the Malawi Music Awards rebranded to Music Malawi Awards in the Hip Hop category.
