Mibawa CCAP, which is under the Blantyre Synod, has ex-communicated former members of the Mbayani Heaven Door Choir for their violent actions against current choir members last Saturday.
The ex-communicated members, according to sources, caused chaos and roughed up the group’s incumbent members following discussions which were called for by the church.
The church had to call the police to quell the situation.
Inside sources said the church called for the discussions to iron differences between some former members and current members.
The ex-members are said to have dumped choir and formed their own choir, which was also named Mbayani Heaven Door Choir.
“Efforts were made to sort out the problems but to no avail until the church decided to bring concerned parties together for discussions.
“But in the course of the discussions, tempers flared with ex-members beating up the current members in the presence of those who called for the discussions,” said one the sources, adding that the church had no choice, call for police intervention.
Mibawa CCAP Deputy Session Clerk Frank Chipeta confirmed the development, observing that the expelled singers lack discipline; hence the ex-communication.
One of the ex-communicated singers, Chisomo Muwera, who was once as the Choir Master for the group before moving out with seven other members, confirmed his arrest, but is now out on bail.
