You’ve got that right, Kainja. Basically what is “killing” us is the extreme poverty (of the pocket and of the mind). Majority of households in the villages have not even a basic radio; and many school leavers, even secondary school graduates, cannot critically digest or analyze a political or economic news piece. And it should be pointed out too that “fake news” was always the staple of Malawi politics, especially during the dictatorship days: Kamuzu was sort of an expert in enabling the state machine to spew out that news.
