The laws are indeed draconian in nature and that they do not only pose a threat to national development but also a danger to existing filling stations and residential areas. Kickbacks may have been given to those allocating them land for the said businesses. Town and Country planners have thrown all the caution to the wind in so far as to where to open a new filling station. It is just unfortunate that Malawi’a own company, the Oil Company of Malawi (Oilcom Ltd), ceased to operate.
