Malawi Police and relations are searching for a 22 year-old College of Medicine student Obey Chirwa who went missing on March 5 2016.

Missing: Obey Chirwa
Missing: Obey Chirwa

Nyasa Times understands that Obey, a former student of Mtendere Secondary School in Dedza (class of 2010), went out and promised his room-mate that he would return the same night, but never returned.

Three weeks have elapsed since the University of Malawi student left the college premises for a night spree.

On March 6, according to his mother, Agness Chirwa, Obey withdrew money from an ATM in the Lakeshore district of Mangochi.

“Efforts to trace his whereabouts have yielded no results. His mobile phone is not reachable as well…….we are so confused.

“He went out on March 5 and the following day (on March 6 2016), he withdrew money from an ATM in Mangochi. We went to Mangochi to ascertain this and his bank account and the CCTV camera confirmed it. We, as a family, have tried to trace him in all possible places but to no avail,” said Obey’s mother, Agness.

“Since then he has never gone to any service center to withdraw or deposit money,” added visibly worried Agness Chirwa

His parents stay in Chikunda, Bangwe in Blantyre.

Meanwhile, the family has asked mobile service provider, Airtel Malawi to provide them with his call logs and related details to possibly identify or trace his friends who might have been with him on the day he went missing.

Those with information regarding his whereabouts report to the nearest police or contact his parents–his mother Agness Chirwa o. 0998270186 while his dad Lyton Chirwa is on 0888329992.

“We are just hoping the call logs will be of assistance as we still trying to emply every possible means to trace his whereabouts, let alone his friends who might have been with him on the day he went out,” she said.
