Government should send the message of non-tolerance to forex smugglers through this plunderer. Anthu achonchi they don’t deserve any bail. The courts should send give a sterner sentence to this guy to deter others from this uncouth behavior. We have said it many a times kuti government treats these |ndians with kids gloves. Government tenders mukuwapasa amwenye; all buildings in cities our 100% occupancy ndi amwenye government cannot even demand a quota of black businesses in these buildingsi; MRA suzapeza mwenye atamangidwa koma ife anthu akuda amangotipezelela basi; Malawi is not poor if one individual can horde over half a… Read more »

If govtment uses non corrupt intelligence to investigate then I assume there is a lot going out undeclared from smaller amounts like k20mil to k1bn , he isn’t the smallest amount or highest to exit and he isn’t the only one. The whole black market thing must be cracked, the guys laundering forex in cities work for businesses, sweep each one of them then let them reveal who the businesses or beaureas are then another k1bn with be confisticated and all the confisticated money should be reinvested in equip, manpower, training, transparency of the enforcement of fiscal security system.

He is lucky to have been caught in Malawi and Malawi can atleast recover the money, in he could have had to be searched in again at Addis Ababa and in India and some corrupt police could either snatch his bag or kidnap him after seeing the money on the xray, just how did he think he could beat two airports, dealer usually arrange for connections n in both airport I.e airlines staff could walk with the bag into the plane at lilongwe then also walk with it into the plane when connecting in Ethiopian or Dubai, malamulo amugheto, use… Read more »

Just imagine this is small compared to what government officials take out every month to foreign banks. Malawians u Wonder why Malawi is poor. This is just small. Indian and Chines take money out. They dont bank in Malawian banks. How do we expect a country to develope? Every penny goes out. Leaders and gurus have so much money in foreign banks while our banks have nothing. Instead we are charged 3 Times for mortgages and saving. They must be a proper Law in Malawi. Of-Course a person can take money out but how much? Even in Europe there is… Read more »

Malawi could have lost a potential in the economy, this money and gold could have created and investment with would energise the lwantedlocal eonomy and generate about k50mil of tax yearly and jobs for 50 people or an investment of k500mil could reduce some problem in the sectors that are indeaquate whilst he is making profit as well as solving a national problem. He can build 2500 houses at k20 each equivalent to five all townships and the gold could lease the land and the a part of rental income could pay the owner of the land I.e govt

That’s simply how Malawi is poor, Treat the gold and money as proceeds of crime, hope the court find it that that, any monies or precious minerals, or simply anything of that financial value including cash itself needs to have a legitimate official source and an audit trail. Then he should prove that he paid tax as well, else he must loose the cash then investigate him house and others involved. All poor country are poor because of corruption, lack of functional efficient institutions, the culture or religion of putting the effort to improve life on earth, externalisation of money.… Read more »

Let me concur with the asking if at all our prisons have ever hosted clients of Asian origin. Is it that all those suspects who appear before courts (Asians) win their cases or our country does not have prisons good enough for them?
