Rumours spread like wild fire on Friday that band leader for the “Ma Blacks” pass on at Mtengo Umodzi Private Hospital along Chileka Airport road in Blantyre on Friday.

Attempts to get hold of Anjiru himself yielded not result as his mobile could not be reached, but Mr. Entertainer quashed the rumours and wondered why people don’t wish others well.

Banda said it was high time people stopped creating and spreading death rumours of any person.

“If something happens to any Black Missionaries Band members, I would be the first person to know.  Anjiru is just very okay and very kicking. I was with him and I will be talking him shortly.

“Why do people do that? This is no good. Let’s learn to love each other! Anjiru is not disturbed with those romours coming people bad motives,”said Banda.

Likewise, one of Anjiru’s closes associates, Sam Banda Junior also condemned the people who are spreading the news that the band’s lead vocalist is dead.

He also said he has been receiving calls to confirm whether Anjiru is ‘dead’.

“At the moment you will not be able to talk to him (Anjiru); he has switched off his phone because people are troubling him with calls to substantiate the death rumours.

“Otherwise, Anjiru is ok and have spoken to him. He is equally surprised with those false news. However, Anjiru, being man enough, has allowed those rumours to pass,” said Banda, who works for Times Media Group.

He added, “We are at it again Malawians. On Wednesday I wrote a story that Anjiru Fumulani was hospitalised of malaria at Mtengo Umodzi in Blantyre and today I have a story that Anjiru was discharged on Wednesday having been admitted on Tuesday. For those who like creating ‘death’ stories, Anjiru Fumulani is not dead,” said the arts and features journalists.

This is not the first to have such death rumours of renowned artists in the country.

In August this year, people  spread rumours that comedian John Nyanga (Izeki) had died.

Other artists who were speculated to have died include gospel musican Princess Chitsulo and comedian Eric Mabedi, among others.

Comedian Micheal usi, known by his stage name as Manganya, described people who spread Izek’s death rumours as satanists.

According to him, spreading false news about someone’s death is the work of the devil.

Though Chingelzi chinabwera pangalawa, at Nyasatimes, anthu wodziwa kulemba chingelezi atha kumeneko kodi? I am tired of reading these phrases from that side. How do you bring such poor English to the readers? Nzamanyazi zedi. Why is that most of the articles are done in vernacularized English instead of English? We need improvement asap.
