The party has however not filled the position of vice president (south), saying the leadership is making “consultations.”

Previous holder of PP vice president (south), Brown Mpinganjira resigned from the party and secretary-general Paul Maulidi was expelled following a fall-out with the party’s leadership.

“The president of the Peoples Party HE Dr. Joyce Banda,  is pleased to announce the appointment of Hon Ralph Jooma,  the Former Minister of Economic Planning and Development, the Current Chief Whip for PP in Parliament,  to be Vice President of the Party with effect from today,” reads a statement from the party.
“The other positions of VP will remain vacant until the President finalizes consultations,” it added.

Matola has been acting in his position but was waiting for the endorsement by the party’s national executive council.

Matola who once served as minister energy during the PP’s two-year term has since pledged to help  reposition and strengthen the party in order to reclaim power from Democratic Progressive Party’s administration.

He joined PP after defecting from UDF where he was parliamentary leader.

Meanwhile, PP spokesman Ken Msonda has said the party will compete in the forthcoming byelections.

The elections will be conducted in five wards which include Luchenza Ward in Luchenza Municipal Council, Zomba Central Ward in Zomba City Council, Msikisi Ward in Mangochi Town Council, Chibanja Ward in Mzuzu City Council and Khwawa Ward in Karonga District Council.

Other major parties such as the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), United Democratic Front (UDF) and Malawi Congress Party (MCP) have also confirmed their participation in the elections.

Northerners pull out of this madness .they will forever want to use you.
How come the party has a majority of members of the party from the Northern region and all big position comes from the eastern region . Better join MCP and strategise for 2019.
Fight for working alliance with them. Let ALomwe and Ayao team up.
