Joyce Banda attacks ‘deeply corrupt’ DPP govt: ‘I’m coming back to Malawi, come what may’

Immediate past president Joyce Banda, who is  currently living in self-imposed exile abroad, has told supporters of her People’s Party (PP) that she will be back home this year but said Malawians need to be liberated from “deeply corrupt” Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) administration.

Banda addressed the PP supporters in an audio message which is going viral as people are sharing it through the WhatsApp.

In the recorded audio, Banda who lost the 2014 elections to incumbent President Peter Mutharika,  accusesd her successor of treating corruption with kids gloves.

She lashed at the DPP administration for what she claimed was institutionalised corruption and assets stripping on State utility companies.

“I feel disheartened with the clueless government which is making our people suffer,” she said.

“Katangale ali ali tho tho tho!Kuba ku chipatala, kuba ku Tevet. Kuba ku Escom. Kuba ku water board. Anthu akusowa madzi, kusowa magetsi. Anthu akupezeka ndizindalama mmanyumba tho tho tho. Kuwotcha ma ofesi Makati. Koma lero Peoples Party ndiye chipani chimene achipezelera kuti adzichiseweretsa kumazunza atsogoleri ake.[ Corruption is deeply entreacnhed. They are stealing from hospitals, Tevet, Escom; They are stealing from water boards. People have no electricity, no water. People are being found with huge sums of money stashes in their homes (George Chaponda). Yet, at the end of the day, the People’s Pary and its leadership are the  punch bags.]

Banda also said in the audio that she is heading back home “soon”.

“I am asking you fellow Malawians to pray hard, Satan has engulfed the country,” she said.

But Minister of Information and Communication Technology Nicholas Dausi hit back at Banda, saying she is making “unsubstantiated allegations, innuendos and political inertia.”

Dausi, who is also the official government spokesman, accused Banda of engaging on a crusade to tarnish the image of Malawi abroad.

Banda also said in the recording that the DPP won the 2014 elections on a stolen vote.

“What has happened in Lilongwe where the MP [Bently Namasasu of DPP] has been removed  [by the court] is evidence the elections were rigged,” she said.

Banda said if ballots were examined in all constituencies and presidential race, it could have proved  “how much the elections were rigged.”

She said: “This year will not end I will be back home. I am coming home come what may, even if they want to kill me but I am coming.”
