Kumwenda’s goal seals Bullets victory against Fomboni: Malawi CAF’s flag carriers

Big Bullets made a long-awaited return to continental football  on a positive note when they beat Fomboni Club du Moheil in Comoros Islands 1-0 on Sunday in the  first leg of 2015 Caf Champions League match.

The Malawi champions left it late to win the game when substitute Tizowere Kumwenda  scored in the 90th minute.

Kumwenda had replaced Victor Limbani after the break to snatch the valuable points with a long range shot, according to Matindi FM live match commentary.

With Chiukepo Msowoya left in Tanzania   Bullets striking force, Mussa Manyenje  was not helpful as he missed two glaring chances in a space of five minutes to the dismay of listers who followed the match through live  radio commentary.

By bringing Tizowere Kumwenda and Jaffalie Chande in the second half, Bullets  breathed new hope to dismantle the home team.

Fomboni failed dismally to take charge of the game.

And when Malawian Winster Phiri missed a sitter in the 60st minute after a nice interchange play from his striking partner, he  got the message that the CAF Champions League is not for the faint-hearted.

Bullets , who must be commended for their sterling defensive tactics, hoping to kill off the game at home in two weeks, brought Miracle Gabeya  to keep  Fomboni strikers at bay and ot worked.

Gabeya was introduced to replace injured Yamikani Fodya.

With a fighting spirit such as they displayed in Comoros, Bullets  will be confident again in the reverse fixture in Blantyre on 28th February 2015.

Going into the Champions League, the Bullets were hit by funding problems and the ruling out of four players, including new signings Owen Chaima and Chiukepo Msowoya.

The overall winner of the preliminary round will face either Al Hilal of Sudan or KMKM of Tanzania .

Bullets squad: Vincent Gona, Pilirani Zonda, Sankhani Mkandawire, Yamikani Fodya, Bashir Maunde (Miracle Gabeya), Dave Ng’ambi, James Chilapondwa, Henry Kabichi,  Fischer Kondowe, Victor Limbani (Tizgobere Kumwenda), Mussa Manyenje (Jaffalie Chande).
