‘Laughgate’ Comedian Chaponda back to his roots Malawi: Show April 25

England based Malawian versatile comedian, Daliso Chaponda, will perform his skit entitled “Laughgate” in Lilongwe on April 25.

The ‘Laughgate’ will be held Bingu International Conference Centre from 8pm and show’s organisers, Qoncept Creative,  have said “all tickets will be sold in advance. There will be no tickets for sale at the door.”

Daliso, a son to Malawi Foreign Affairs Minister Dr George Chaponda, is widely recommended as a “wonderfully animated comic, full of extravagant gestures and impassioned speeches.”

He touts his show to be “hilarious”.

“There have been all manner of scandals in Malawi and the rest of the world in the last few years. It is about scandals like Cashgate, Nipplegate and Gamergate. Some of them quite ridiculous while others are depressing. Laughgate will simply be hilarious,” Daliso enthuses.

There will support acts Dee Satha, Neil Nayer and a hip hop performance by Blantyre-based artists Classik of the Homegrown duo and Viceroy.

Daliso began his comedy career in Canada with the acclaimed one man show ‘Feed This Black Man’. Subsequent appearances across Canada followed (highlights include The Just For Laughs Festival 2005 & CBC Television’s ‘Crossing The Main’).

In 2004 Daliso Chaponda headlined the ‘Don’t Let Them Deport Me’ Comedy Show as a plea to officials to have his Canadian visa extended. The show was sold out, well reviewed, and frenzied letters were written to bureaucrats. He was forced to leave anyway after one final show, 2005’s “They’re Deporting Him Anyway.” Next, he worked as a comedy writer and performer in South Africa. Recently he moved to the UK.

In addition to Stand-Up Comedy, Daliso has also published fiction in numerous magazines and anthologies. In 2002 he was a finalist in the L. Ron Hubbard Writer’s of the Future Contest and in 2006 he was short listed for the Carl Brandon Society Award.

Malawians…this dude is non-partisan. He is his own man..he even makes fun of his father and his links with the DPP. Don’t judge if you don’t know nothing about somebody…you end uplooking the fool.

Keep it up Dalitso you are one of the few Malawians who are putting Malawi on the map with diversity..

Welcome Dalitso to our wonderful country. I would have loved if the gate fee is known so that those who plan to patronize the event could be prepared.
