What you have not said is that there was low turn-out in the second-round in Liberia’s presidential poll. This defeats the whole notion that 50+1 enhances a president’s mandate because George Weah was elected by more than 50 percent of FEWER people compared to those that voted in the first round. Secondly, re-runs in Africa’s current political culture are fraught with intense political paralysis and (un)necessary legal challenges. I do not think that the electoral reforms proposed in Malawi will yield any positive results becaase it is the political culture that is rotten and an obstacle to change.

The delays and stagnation of business that ensues in the aftermath of a disputed repeat election is indeed not worhty it. I agree with Danwood. All our country needs is to strengthen the credibility of the electoral commission.

Let them conduct a professionally credible, free and fair election.
