Lilongwe calls for lifting of Zimbabwe economic sanctions

Malawi has joined the Sadc member states in calling for the lifting of economic sanctions on Zimbabwe.

A statement from the ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation says the lifting of the sanctions would support the socio-economic development and reconstruction efforts in Zimbabwe.

“The government of the Republic of Malawi is committed to working with all involved stakeholders towards the lifting of the sanctions imposed on the government of the Republic of Zimbabwe,” says the statement in part.

The statement says a prosperous Zimbabwe is in the best interest of Zimbabwe and the Sadc community.

Just hours after issuing the statement, the US slapped individual sanctions on the minister of Homeland Security in Zimbabwe for the violent dealing of peaceful demonstrations as well as missing and torture of critics of the authorities.

Zimbabwean government should reform itself, open up democratic space and respect human rights of its citizens and tame the scourge of corruption in that country then they can even dream of sitting around tables… Read more »

Malawi problems are domestic
They can only be sorted by opposition
They seem to agree when they loose
Until they unite before the elections
Imagine if chilima and chakwera United before the elections
Why only now
United in demos and looting and violence

Sort out your house first before sorting out your neighbours’. Zimbabwe is not worried about protests going on in Malawi. Yet Malawi government is very concerned with Zimbabwe self inflicted crisis. Wake up people
