When we talk about youth-empowerment, these serious young people are the ones we pin our hopes on, not the various party youth cadres who are empowered with transport, pangas, and impunity by their respective parties, and who behave more like ‘die Hitlerjugend’ (Hitler Youth) than the political leaders of tomorrow. However, I notice from the photograph that the young parliamentarians present at the Lilongwe District Council Chambers were small in number, and that girls were under-represented.
