Madonna’s Malawi twins’ dad claims he didn’t realize adoption was permanent

America pop icon Madonna newly adopted children’s biological father says he was not told the truth that he might never see his children again.

In an interview with Mail on Sunday, 40-year old Adam Mwale accused the High Court of Malawi for misleading him into believing that the adoption of Esther and Stella was not permanent.

“It is a lie that I abandoned the children before they were adopted by Madonna,” he said.

According to Mwale, he believed Madonna, 58, was merely fostering the twins, not adopting them forever.

“I was told from the start that Esther and Stella were going to a rich woman’s home abroad, that she would give them a good education, then return them to me, to live with me and help all of my family.

“Now you are telling me the adoption is permanent,” Mwale raged to the newspaper.

“That cannot be true. I don’t want it to be true. I am their father and I will always be their father.”

Mwale branded allegations that he had “abandoned” the twin girls after their mother died in childbirth as “lies”.

“It was me who took the girls to the orphanage after Patricia died,” he said. “Everyone in the village knows I just wanted the best for them.”

However, Judiciary spokesperson Mlenga Mvula said the adoption of the children were irreversible.

“The process was done after wide consultations. The ministery of Gender, Women and Children Affairs through their welfare officers were involved,” Mvula said.

He said Mwale was duly briefed on what the adoption was all about.

“If it was done behind his back, the court would not have granted the adoption order,” said Mvula.

After denying a Nyasa Times story that she had applied to adopt two more children from Malawi, Madonna confirmed the news earlier this month.

On her Instagram page, she wrote: “I can officially confirm I have completed the process of adopting twin sisters from Malawi and am overjoyed that they are now part of our family.

“I am deeply grateful to all those in Malawi who helped make this possible, and I ask the media please to respect our privacy during this transitional time.”

During the judgement passed at the High Court in Malawi, Judge Fiona Mwale said: “[Madonna’s] extended family are equally on-board with the adoption.

“One of her sister’s and her husband have executed a declaration of their willingness to step in as guardian of the two infants should anything happen to the petitioner.”

Esther and Stella, twins whose mother died soon after they were born, raises the number of Madonna’s adopted children to four, all from Malawi.

So far, Madonna’s spokesperson has not commented on Mwale’s interview
