Mafco inflict defeat on Wanderers, damage title hopes: Malawi TNM Super Leagues

Another remarkable day in the life of the TNM Super League, another shocking result for the title pretender Mighty Be Forward Wanderers  when they were inflicted to a 2-3 defeat by  Mafco at  Kamuzu Stadium  on Sunday.

In a captivating fixture, the Nomads found themselves a goal  behind in the first 20th minute   courtesy of Stain Malata.

The Nomads  pulled one back just before the break through Jaffali Chande  but the Salima based soldiers restored their two-goal advantage in the second half  through Zikhole Ngulube.

Ngulube scored through a free-kick near the south corner flag, which Bester Phiri could have done better to avoid the goal.

Boston Kabango ensured an interesting game by lashing home  in the added time but, try as they might, the Nomads  could not conjure up an equaliser.

Moment of silence on the Nomads stands came on the dot of the final whistle, when Richard Mbulu scored the winner after a long shot, which was too hot for Phiri to handle.

This was a thorough test of Wanderers  title credentials and, with Blue Eagles  beating  Moyale 1-0 to make their points 18, may be a game the Nomads  look back on with plenty of regret at the end of the season.

The Nomads kicked-off the game on a positive side , and should probably have taken the lead after seven minutes, when Isaac Kaliat was played through by Mike Kaziputa.

The Nomads  improved as the half wore on and had vociferous appeals for a penalty away when Mafco defender  scythed down  Amos Bello. The striker fell inside the penalty area but referee Ishamel Chizinga  correctly ruled that there was no foul involved.

Wanderers  had initially struggled to make inroads after the break, so it made sense to see Jabulani Linje  replace Amos Bello, while Khumbo Ng’ambi came in for Isaac Kaliati.

Ibrahim Sadick was also introduced for Mike Kaziputa.

Mbulu for Mafco nearly caused havoc in the Nomads defence when he raced  into the penalty area and picking out  Foster Namwera but lucky enough Boston Kabango came to the rescue.

With only one win against Silver Strikers before draws against Nyasa Big Bullets, Dwangwa United and Civo United,  Jack Chamangwana’s  men must respond quickly.

Goodness knows Chamangwana is struggling, and this is the kind of result that could just invite trouble for him and the supporters  must wonder if the title that they believed Chamangwana could achieve is in anyway a possibility.

Many Wanderers supporters who spoke to Nyasa Times expressed disappointment with the club’s woeful display.

“We are not improving in tactics. We are poorer than we were last season. The coach seems to be clueless. Old time football tactics not helping the team,” said  a supporter identified as ‘Kosovo’.

On another note, the game grossed K7,845,700.

In other matches, Max Bullets and Epac FC  played out a 0-0 draw, while Kamuzu Barracks defeated Dwangwa United 5-1.

Dubbed Malawi’s Leicester City, league leaders Blue Eagles beat Moyale Barracks 1-0.

How do you expect a team to perform well when its full of boko halam soldiers who are seeking refuge in malawi? This is just the beginning, there is more misery to come this week end.

I simply say congratulations MAFCO.You deserved victory. You are a good team. You showed it when you played the giants in the land AT CHITOWE STADIUM LAST OF LAST WEEK .YOU TWICE CAME FROM BEHIND TO LEVEL THE SCORES AND TO SHOW THAT YOU ARE IN A CLASS OF YOUR OWN YOU SCORED THE EQUALISER AT THE DOT OF THE GAME TO END THE GAME AT 2,2. To our neighbour, my advice is ‘grass looks greener the other side of the mountain’. Up to this time around You believe that African football was invented in Nigeria AND OTHER COUNTRIES IN… Read more »
