Jeremy Wisten has been signed by Manchester City for their Under 13 Elite Squad.

Jeremy was born in Lilongwe to Malawi parents. The family settled in England when he was one year old.

He returns to Malawi during his football and school break in July this year when he hopes to provide some inspiration to other Malawi school kids in realising their dreams.

The Malawi-born football sensation long-term ambition is to be the best centre back in England. He is quick, strong and fearless – qualities celebrated at the signing ceremony.

He joins a squad of multi-national young talent at the £200 million  world class academy and becomes one of only two players to join this elite squad from the Manchester City Talent Select system in the past two years.

His journey is one of hard work and dedication. Prior to Manchester City, Jeremy played grass roots football at Altrincham Juniors FC in Greater Manchester before moving to Salford-based De La Salle FC in 2014 where he helped his team win the coveted Manchester FA County Cup in style, conceding only one goal in the entire competition.

He also played for Trafford Schoolboys during 2015.

Jeremy was scouted by Manchester City in March 2015 and has since trained and played with both the City Select squad and the Elite Academy Squad.

His signing concludes a successful formal trial period and marks his official entry into this elite and ambitious football academy. He can now look forward to both national and international matches in his age group and more hard work.

Asked who he wants to emulate, Jeremy responds “Maybe Vincent Kompany, just a bit better! With hard work I can do it”.

And the hard work is there to see. Every week he has 4 days of football training when school and football are merged at City and a junior premier league match on Sunday.

The boy is English, he qualifies as homegrown but he can play for either Malawi or England under FIFA rules but Malawi Flames are not too appealing so I suppose he will pick England. Better chance of playing at top level competitions.
