Malawi couple arrested for theft of goats, maize

Police at Balaka in eastern Malawi is keeping in custody a husband and wife on theft charges for stealing goats and maize respectively.

Police publicist Inspector Joseph Sauka says the suspects Lanjesi Roderick and Chisomo Mwazaonga (22 ), broke into the kraal of Mrs Stella Wanderson and stole two goats during the night of last Thursday at Joshua village, slaughtered them right there in the kraal and packed them in the sucks.

“The two suspects were arrested by members of the general public after they were found with the stolen goats and were taken to Balaka Police Station,” says Sauka.

Sauka says few after the arrested of the two, the wife to Lanjesi Roderick, Stella Cydrick and her friend Ndaona Samson 26 (who recently burned fingered of  her 3-year old son on allegation that he stole relish) were also brought to Balaka Police Station after they were caught stealing green maize.

“Meanwhile, all four suspects Chisomo Mwazaonga, Ndaona Samson and Lanjesi Roderick and his wife Stella Cydrick are still in Police custody and are expected to appear before court soon where they will answer a case of theft of which is contrary to section 278 of the penal code.

“But Ndaona Samson will also answer a case of unlawful wounding after scalding her 3 year old son on allegation that he stole relish,” said Sauka.

The suspects Ndaona Samson, Lanjesi Roderick and his wife Stella Cydrick come from Joshua village while Chisomo Mwazaonga comes from Chiondo, village; all from Senior Chief Msamala in the same district of Balaka.

  9. This is to advise the Nyasatimes reporter from Balaka to stop publicising trivial issues like this one. Malawi is a big society and there are a lot of important issues to be shared and not of this type. Recently, there has been a lot of coverage of negative things about people of Balaka, but they are good enough to be left out of this important online news post, as most of them are trivial and not in the interest if the public.

Everytime i try 2 feed myself with info here i read about negative Balaka..Should we conclude that its the pulic relations officer who scandalise the home of the first lady? should we say that crimes of this calibar doesnt happen in other districts?..so, why is it that every minor crime in balaka draws the attention of nyasatimes? does nyasa has a reliable & tangible source in BlK than anywhere.? How can one kill two goats in the kraal without the owner hearing the sounds of Goats, I have witnessed people killing goats and the drama that normally happens, it seems the whole Police service in Balaka should be investigated, it seems some of the stories are cooked up to look as if the PMS in Balaka is doing commendable job,
