Malawi government changes Kaliati’s ministry name

Malawi government through its Chief Secretary Geerge Mkondiwa has said it has changed the name of one of its ministries from Ministry of Information and Civic Education to Ministry of Information, Communications Technology and Civic Education.

Mkondiwa said in a statement that the change has been made to reflect the direction is taking with the ministry.

“The Office of the President and Cabinet wishes to inform the general public and all Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) that the Ministry of Information and Civic Education has been renamed.

“The change has been made to reflect the direction that Government is taking to develop the Information Technology Communications (ICT) in the country, ” the statement said.

The above ministry is currently being headed by  Patricia Kaliati.

Any change on service delivery? I doubt. chimwemwe Banda wandipedza zedi the ministry has once again to change to ministry of cosmetics and miphodo affairs. kkkkk

The first thing the government did to show that this is actually not the direction the Ministry is taking was to appoint Kaliati as its Minister. We all know she is less of ICT and more of blah blah blah!

I don’t understand Malawian politicians’ shallow thinking when it comes to naming ministries: The name of a ministry does not have to reflect EVERYTHING that happens in that ministry. This is a costly and ultimately useless undertaking. Now all stationery has to be changed to reflect the new name; and just think about how ungainly the name will sound during news on the radio. when internet price is exobitant.we will not worship you because we know you are just good at initiating than implementing.if few malawians only access ict services due to high cost how do you promote ict?.when telecom operators steal from people with unreliable & dubious deductions making billions profits in country where majority are poor how do you promote ict?.when even than minister herself needs orientation on how to handle public information not being anoise maker

Malawi has taken a right direction. Actually this is the trend in most african countries. The role of ICT in this modern world ought not to be overemphasized. Its indubitable that public service delivery can only be enhanced if we embrace ICT. This is an ‘e-world’ where even 2 years olds have embraced ICT.
