Malawi head coach confident of win in Ethiopia

Malawi national football team coach Young Chimodzi is rarely lacking in confidence and he  is firm in his belief that the Flames will deliver in Ethiopia to secure a slot at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

If Flames are to qualify for the finals, now to take place in Equatorial Guinea after the pull out of morocco from hosting the continent’s biggest soccer fiesta due to growing Ebola fears, they should beat Ethiopia in the Wednesday match.

Speaking on departure, Sunday afternoon, Chimodzi said he strongly believe his charges will win in Addis Ababa and  progress in the tournament

“I believe we will win and my players believe victory in for us.That’s the most important thing,” said Chimodzi.

Chimodzi said he would make one change to his line up that defeated Mali at the Kamuzu stadium. Maintaining the 4-1-3-2 formation, he will start with Gastin Simukonda for Gabadini  Mhango.

MacDonald Harawa will still man the posts. The rear guard will be marshaled by John Lanjesi, Francis Mlimbika, Limbikani Mzava and Harry Nyirenda.

The industrious Chimango Kaira will keep the engine room as a holding midfielder, playing just in front of the Defence. And the experienced trio of Robert Ng’ambi, Fischer Kondowe and captain Joseph Kamwendo will keep the supply lines running to feed the striking duo of in-form assassin Esau Kanyenda and the promising deadly finisher Simukonda.

Meanwhile this is the whole squad that has travelled to Ethiopia: Harawa, Chipuwa, Lanjesi, Mlimbika, Mzava, Nyirenda, Maunde, Kaira, Masiye, Chimodzi Jr, Kondowe, Kamwendo, Ng’ambi, Ngalande, Kanyenda, Simukonda, Mhango and Banda Frank.

But even in the unlikely event that they score first, do not despair. Remember Algeria came from behind to beat them 1-3 in Algeria last week? Just aim to score as many goals as possible while preventing the hosts from scoring. Presurise them and create and use as many chances as you can. You successfully pressurised Algeria and Mali and created a lot of chances here at home. Just make… Read more »

should you ignore Zicco, u a making a big mistake. Yes to starting Gastin with Esau but when you make changes in the second half, try Zicco to help Esau, and Frank Banda to bring fire in the atack from Midfield too.
