Malawi MET warns of more rain
After five days of prolonged rains that caused havoc in most parts f southern Malawi the officials at the Department of the Meteorological Services and Climate Change says more rains will be now be shifting to northern and central areas.
In its weather forecast report released on Friday the Met department says the country should expect locally heavy rains tonight and tomorrow.
“The risks of flooding are still very high and avoid crossing fast flowing streams and rivers,” it warns.
“What the country has witnessed is only the beginning of the onset of rains,” Paul Chiunguzeni, principal secretary for Disaster Management Affairs, said in a statement.
“The government is urging people living in flood-prone districts to urgently relocate to upland areas to avoid losing more lives.”
Chiunguzeni would not provide an updated figure, saying teams had been sent to “source and verify information” on the number of people dead and missing.
Here is the detailed weather forecast from Friday up to Sunday.
