The watchman, Moses Buleya was hacked to death by unknown criminals-currently on the run- who eventually stole three goats from Venture Farm owned by William Frank Inglis, police have said.

The incident happened on the night of Wednesday 17th, 2016.

“Criminals invaded the farm and hacked the watchman on the head using a sharp object probably a panga knife and went away with three goats,” explained Mulanje police Public Relations Officer, Gresham Ngwira.

“After receiving information, we rushed to the scene of the incident and found the deceased’s body in pool of blood. The body was taken to Mulanje District Hospital for postmortem”.

The postmortem results are not yet out.

Ngwira said they were currently hunting for the assailants, and has since advised employers to desist from employing old people as watchmen.

“We advise people not to employ old watchmen just because they are cheap. Instead they should employ young and energetic ones who can at least try to overcome criminals if attacked,” he said.

Buleya hailed from Bango village, T/A Mabuka in the district.

Son cuts off father’s head

Meanwhile, in another murder related case, in Lilongwe shock gripped residents of Mitundu on  Thursday when 21-year-old Yohane Chambu hacked his 52 year-old father Sainani Chambu to death in cold blood, police said.

The son who is currently in police custody is said to have severely beat up his father before poking out his both eyes and later chopped off his head.

Lilongwe Police Station Public Relations Officer Kingsley Dandaula said the suspect was well known for smoking Indian hemp popularly known as chamba.

“On Thursday the suspect went to his parents’ house and beat up his mother before cutting her arms with a panga knife. He also picked up a child and threw it away. Later on he proceeded to the garden where his father was working and beat him up, took out his eyes and cut off his head,” said Dandaula.

He said the suspect is expected to answer charges of murder contrary to section 209 of the Penal Code.

Both the deceased and the suspect hail from Fisi village in the area of Traditional Authority Chiseka in Lilongwe. –Additional reporting by Maston Kaiya, Mana
