This can only happen when first of all we accept that we all Malawians and leave out hate speech and coments against ethical groups, tribes and religion

In Rwanda, ‘divisionism’ is a crime, punishable by enforced re-education in a ‘de-ethnicizing’ camp. It is illegal to refer to your own, or anyone else’s tribal origins.

This is an excellent description of the political wasteland that is our homeland today. Unlike countries such as Rwanda, we have not experienced inter-ethnic genocide. Blood has not flowed. Instead, it is hope that has flowed from us. But hope, as they say, springs eternal. Surely, we are in a much better position than Rwanda was twenty-four years ago. According to ‘Trading Economics’, in 1994, Rwanda’s Gross Domestic Product per capita (adjusted by purchasing power parity) was US$496. Last year it was US$1,854, which was 10% of the global average. We may think that this is not very good, but… Read more »

Very true. Just to add, the problem Malawi is facing seem to stem from too many accidental presidents. The incumbent would not have been president if his brother was not president, his brother would not have been president if Muluzi did not hand pick him, Muluzi would not have been president if the South did not have the numbers and accepted wakuba yemweyo, and finally our own mama would not have been president if Bingu did not die in office. Transformation will not happen in our lifetime. Until we all believe that we are Malawians as a matter of fact, we are heading for a disaster. Therefore we need to emancipate ourselves first and not be divided by political rhetoric on the basis of tribe, religion or region. We must believe that we are all Malawians. Politicians are not going to bring social transformation because it wouldn’t work in their favour. We should all take responsibility for our destiny and not leave it in the hands of politicians. Our destiny is too precious to hand it over to politicians.

True word. What I see is hyenas changing caves but bearing the same spots. Look at the so called transformation movement. Who are the people behind Chilima? Kaliati, Mulli, Masangwi, Callista (the very same people who created the DPP we know and have today. MCP Msowoya pachipanda kumusempha ndi udindo wa VP akanakhala konko. There is no change, no transformation yet as far as I am concerned.

Just wait and see how the northern region will embrace Chilima and UTM despite him being part of the DPP for more than 4 years. Don’t blame anyone after that.

A ntauninu follow Chiliima, if akumudzi we know that Chilima ndi DPP pumbwa at heart – he has eaten and kept quiet all these years until he wanted to be president. People are now coming to their senses and seeing him for who he is. A thief and charlatan who is pretending to be an angel.
