THE FLOODING IN LILONGWE MUST BE A WORK UP CALL. EVEN BUYERS MUST BE MINDFUL OF THE FUTURE. THE RAINS WILL NEVER STOP COMING BECAUSE SOMEONE HAS BUILT A MANSION. TODAY WE MAY HAVE PROPERTY DESTROYED, TOMMOROW IT COULD BE HOUSES WASHED AWAY. THE 2015 INCISENT OF BLANTYRE WHERE A MANSION WAS WASHED AWAY MUST BE A LESSON TO ALL BUYERS. LET US IGONER SUCH AREAS AND BUY IN UPLAND AREAS.

MAALWIANS LET US TAKE THESE PAINFUL LESSONS SERIOUSLY.

What does the law say on land ownership? I remember PP under JB passed a law that no foreigner should own. Has DPP reversed this? Atupele Muluzi shud issue a statement on this. If they not allowed to own land, then all lease agreements given to foreigners shoule be cancelled. No foreigners should own land. Zander Mutiuze is right. In Zambia foreigners cannot own land. In South Africa it’s the same thing. For example, we don’t want to see or hear indians or foreigners owning plots in Area 43. Politicians please stop being sleepy. One day we will wake up… Read more »

It’s in the social media pictures everywhere – the excessive flooding in Mtandile, Area 47 Sector 4 and Area 49. If it was a wrong to allocate plots along the buffer zones of the rivers in towns, let the relevant authorities normalise the anomaly by reclaiming those plots back for the rivers and reallocate other plots to concerned people accordingly! Otherwise it is a time bomb resulting from poor land management practices. Authorities please act! By-laws are there to safeguard sanity in society.

How many cities if any apart from our own Blantyre & Lilongwe have catchment areas for their water supply within the city? Even if you now go ahead demolishing structures built in fragile areas urbanization pressure will make this exercise a futile one. I was checking on one study projecting which cities will be the biggest 100 years from now and I was surprised to find both Blantyre and Lilongwe with their projected population of 40 & 42 million respectively within the top 100. I am surprised why all of a sudden Malawians are now having a big appetite for… Read more »

I applied for land since 1994. Paid registreration fee starting from 50 kwacha The 1000. I got no land. Land in Lilongwe is divided and sold low price to ministers, relatives and friends and party followers. Most land is sold o Indians and now Chinese. NO where land is sold to foreigners but with corruption in Malawi its possible and legal. At one time I got a land in area 43 at 500 kwacha that time. Got a letter to day go tomorrow to pay deposite of 250 kwacha was told mwachendwa. I told abwela mwina azamupasaniko kapeni. NO madam.… Read more »
